WINNIPEG, MB. – The Winnipeg police have identified the suspect and released new details with respect to the murder of Irvine Fraser, a Winnipeg Transit driver.

As MyToba News reported yesterday, 58-year-old Fraser was assaulted around 1:55 a.m. Tuesday morning on the University of Manitoba campus.  Fraser was found by police suffering from serious stab wounds, he was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.

The suspect has now been identified as Brian Kyle Thomas, 22-years-old. Thomas has been charged with Second Degree Murder, Possession of a Weapon and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order.

Police said their investigation has revealed that Fraser told Thomas, the lone male occupant of the bus, to exit as it was the end of the line.

Thomas moved to the front of the bus and indicated that he did not wish to exit at this time. After repeated requests by Fraser, Thomas was escorted off.

A verbal argument continued resulting in a physical altercation outside the bus at which time a knife was produced by Thomas. He then proceeded to stab Fraser multiple times.

Thomas fled the area on foot and was arrested nearby on the frozen Red River and taken into custody.

Members of Winnipeg Transit have started a Go Fund Me page to support the family of Irvine Fraser.
