Winnipeg Foster Father Charged For Infant’s Death

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Winnipeg foster father is facing charges after the death of an infant.

It happened Tuesday around 3:30pm when the 22-year-old man brought the baby to hospital.

The 10-month-old child was severally injured and listed in critical condition.

He or she later succumbed to those injuries.

The Child Abuse Unit investigated and charged the accused with Criminal Negligence Cause Death.

His name will not be released at this time to protect the identity of his foster child.

The man will not be allowed to be a foster parent again.

Winnipeg police continue to investigate.

Winnipeg Police Dog Laid To Rest

WINNIPEG, MB. — Winnipeg police have laid one of their service dogs to rest at the age of 16.

Cinder was born in the spring of 2001 as part of the Canine Breeding Program.

Her parents were Cinder (senior) and Buddy.

She was the first female police service dog to serve on the force.

Winnipeg police remember Cinder for her “tracking drive and feisty working attitude.”

She was classified as dual purpose in the K9 Unit, assisting with tracking and drug profiling.

Cinder served around 12 years on the force and had a long history of arrests.

She was the only Canadian police dog to be featured in a collection of short stories titled “Badge On My Collar II.”

Cinder was retired in the spring of 2013 and spent her remaining days with her handler and his family.

“She will be sadly missed,” say Winnipeg police in a release.

Brandon Police Stakeout Motel, Catch Traffickers

BRANDON, MB. — Three people are facing charges for trafficking meth after a Brandon police stakeout.

Investigators watched a motel room on Middleton Avenue Wednesday night.

Around 9:35pm, a vehicle pulled up to the room and three people got out.

A woman removed the window screen to the unit, slipped in, and opened the door for the man and woman waiting outside.

Brandon police watched as the trio removed items from the room and loaded them into the car.

They followed the suspect vehicle as it left the motel and stopped it in the 1700-block of 18th Street.

Officers searched the vehicle and recovered over five-grams of meth, six grams of pot, and other drug trafficking items.

A 43-year-old Brandon woman was searched and had a small amount of meth as well as a cellphone on her despite court orders not to.

She was charged was arrested for Break and Enter, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of Marihuana, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Breach of Undertaking.

The accused remains behind bars.

A 29-year-old Brandon woman and 46-year-old Brandon man were both charged with Break and Enter.

Both were released on a promise to appear in court in November.

Emerson RCMP Investigate Fatal Crash

ROSEAU RIVER FIRST NATION, MB. — Emerson RCMP are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

It happened just after midnight Wednesday on Highway 201, just west of Roseau River First Nation, Manitoba.

Police say a 43-year-old Saskatchewan man wearing dark clothing was walking westbound down the road.

He was struck by a westbound vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

So far, alcohol and speed have been ruled out.

No other information is available at this time, but MyToba News will provide all updates as we receive them.

The investigation continues.

Brandon Couple Faces Domestic Assault Charges

BRANDON, MB. — Two Brandon women are facing charges for assaulting each other.

It happened around 1:10am Thursday near the corner of 7th Street and VanHorne Avenue in Brandon.

A woman called police and said her girlfriend choked her.

Officers attended the area and found the girlfriend nearby.

She told them the other woman punched her in the face.

Neither were injured.

Both the 28-year-old and 39-year-old were arrested and charged with Domestic Assault.

They were released on a promise to appear in court in November.

Bicycle + Shotgun + Meth = Arrest For Winnipeg Man

WINNIPEG, MB – A Winnipeg man is behind bars after being stopped on his bicycle by the Winnipeg Police.

Officers from Division 13 tried stopping 29-year-old James Kelly Poole (who has outstanding arrest warrants), while he was on his bicycle and pushing another bicycle.

When he saw the police, Poole fled and threw his bike at the cops.

Police caught him and arrested him without injury.

During the arrest, police found a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, $400 worth of meth, and some bolt cutters in his backpack.

Poole now faces the following charges:

– Warrant of Arrest for Armed Robbery, Point Firearm
– Warrant of Arrest for Fail to Comply with Probation Order
– Possess Scheduled Substance (Methamphetamine)
– Assault Peace Officer
– Resist Peace Officer
– Numerous Firearm-related offences
– Possess Break-in Instruments
– Possess Property Obtained by Crime

He remains in custody.

5 Drunk Drivers Stopped In Just Six Hours Friday Night On Manitoba Roads

WINNIPEG, MB – In the space of just six hours Friday night, Manitoba RCMP removed five drunk drivers from the highways.

All of the drivers nabbed were above the blood alcohol limit, and will end up in court facing charges.

“Road safety in Manitoba has been and always will be a priority for the RCMP”, said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP. “We are committed to eliminating impaired driving and the tragedies that are all too often associated with this high-risk driving behaviour and we encourage anyone who observes this dangerous behaviour to please contact the police.”

Senior Cyclist Collides With Car In Brandon

BRANDON, MB – Around 5:25 pm on Friday, Brandon Police responded to a collision at 18th St and Princess Avenue.

A vehicle travelling westbound on Princess had turned south onto 18th St and collided with a cyclist.

The cyclist was on the south side of the intersection, travelling eastbound in the crosswalk at the time.

Police closed the intersection for around 1 hour to give emergency staff the chance to help the 69-year-old male cyclist and investigate the incident.

The cyclist was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre, and released after being treated for minor injuries. No charges will be laid against the cyclist.

O.J. Simpson Walks Free

LAS VEGAS, NV. — O.J. Simpson is a free man.

The disgraced NFL football star walked out of a Las Vegas prison after serving nine years for kidnapping and armed robbery.

He had been sentenced to 33 years for the armed robbery of football memorabilia dealers at a Las Vegas casino.

Officials released Simpson shortly after midnight Sunday to avoid media attention.

He was picked up by an unknown man.

A prison employee said Simpson took three or four microwave-sized boxes with him containing things like clothing and a hot plate.

His conditions of parole include restrictions on alcohol and a ban from consuming drugs.

A blood alcohol reading exceeding .08% could land him back in prison.

Previously, he stood trial in the 1994 murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.

While Simpson was acquitted of the killings, he was sued for wrongful death two years later by the Brown and Goldman families.

They were awarded $33.5-mliion dollars.

Winnipeg Man Stable After North End Stabbing

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Winnipeg man is recovering after a brutal assault in the city’s North End.

It happened around 2:15am Sunday near the corner of Main Street and Selkirk Avenue.

Winnipeg police found the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was rushed to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

The victim is listed as being in his 20’s. His name was not released.

Winnipeg police do not have a suspect in custody.

The investigation led to road closures and traffic delays.

Winnipeg Police Recover Man’s Body From Pond

It happened around 1:15pm Sunday at Woodsworth Park near the corner of Keewatin Street and Hecla Avenue.

The victim has only been described as an adult male.

Winnipeg police consider the circumstances suspicious.

Six Charged After Violent Winnipeg Home Invasion

WINNIPEG, MB. — Six people are facing charges after a violent home invasion in Winnipeg.

It happened back on Wednesday, September 20th around 6:00am in the 1100-block of Selkirk Avenue.

The victim told police an unknown number of people forced their way into his home and assaulted him.

They were reportedly armed with guns, demanded money, and fled with the victim’s keys and two vehicles.

Around 1:30am the next day, Winnipeg police spotted one of the stolen vehicle near Main Street and Bannerman Avenue.

It was stopped and a 21-year-old woman was taken into custody.

Police say she had 7.5-grams of meth on her.

A week later on September 27th around 2:00am, Winnipeg police spotted the second stolen vehicle.

It was stopped at Charles Street and Manitoba Avenue.

A man and three women were taken into custody.

Police searched the vehicle and recovered pepper spray, .60-grams of meth, score sheets, scales, and several cellphones.

Winnipeg’s Tactical Support Team was called in to the 1600-block of Ross Avenue on September 30th around 3:45pm.

Someone had reported seeing a firearm at this location.

Investigators searched and recovered five shotgun shells and an inoperable shotgun inside a home there.

A man and woman were taken into custody and the man was identified as the home invading robber.

Winnipeg Boy Boards Bus With Machete

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Winnipeg boy is facing charges for carrying an 18-inch machete on a bus.

The 17-year-old boarded the vehicle at Main Street and Manitoba Avenue around 4:45pm Sunday afternoon.

Winnipeg police were on the bus and noticed the handle sticking out of his waist band.

They acted quickly and arrested the teen.

The accused is charged with Possess Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Carry Concealed Weapon.

He remains behind bars.

Winnipeg Woman Critical After Being Struck By Car

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Winnipeg woman is clinging to life after being hit by a vehicle.

It happened around 11:13am Sunday near the corner of Logan Avenue and Quelch Street in Winnipeg.

The woman had been walking when she was struck and the driver stayed at the scene.

EMS workers rushed her to hospital to undergo surgery. She remains in critical condition.

Winnipeg police continue to investigate and say the driver is being cooperative.

No charges have been laid and no other details are available at this time.

Winnipeg Police Make Massive Drug Seizure

WINNIPEG, MB. — Winnipeg police have made a massive drug seizure.

It happened around 10:25am Friday at a home in the first 100-block of Fairgrove Bay.

The raid was conducted with the Winnipeg Police Service K9 Unit.

Inside, they recovered:

  • 578-grams of cocaine
  • 850-grams of cannabis resin
  • 113 40-mg pills of OxyContin
  • 400-grams of cutting agent
  • Cell phone, packaging material, and drug mixing equipment
  • $31,050.00 in Canadian cash
  • .32 caliber handgun (with one loaded magazine chambered and another loaded magazine)
  • .9 mil handgun (with one loaded magazine chambered)
  • .9 mil handgun (with one loaded magazine chambered)

Winnipeg police say the drugs have an estimated street value worth more than $59,000.

Kevin William Lavalle, 33, is facing a slew of charges:

  • Produce a Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
  • Three counts of Possession of a Schedules Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Three counts of Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Three counts of Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
  • Three counts of Possess Weapon
  • Two counts of Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
  • Three counts of Possession of a Firearm, prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

Lavalle remains behind bars.

Winnipeg Man Charged For Brutal Assault

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Winnipeg man is facing charges for a brutal assault on two people.

It happened around 2:00am Sunday at the corner of Main Street and Selkirk Avenue.

A fight broke out between several parties.

Police say a woman was assaulted, knocked to the ground, and further assaulted.

That’s when the accused stabbed another man several times in the upper body.

He was rushed to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable.

Tyson Cody Little, 26, has been charged with Assault.

He remains behind bars.

Winnipeg Police Hunting Manslaughter Suspect

WINNIPEG, MB. — Do you recognize this wanted Winnipeg man?

Jason Scott Woodhouse, 23, is a suspect in the shooting of a man on July 21st.

The victim was gunned down in the 700-block of Selkirk Avenue around 10:00pm.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injury.

Woodhouse is wanted for manslaughter.

He’s described as Indigenous, six-feet-tall, weighing 300-pounds.

Woodhouse has short black hair and brown eyes.

Brandon Man Critical After Violent Robbery

BRANDON, MB. — A Brandon man is clinging to life after a violent robbery.

It happened Saturday evening at an apartment on Brandon’s 9th Street.

Brandon police say a man and woman followed the victim to the apartment.

They violently assaulted him before robbing the man and fleeing the scene.

The victim was air lifted to Winnipeg with severe head injuries.

He remains in hospital in critical condition.

Police raided a home in Brandon’s East End Sunday evening and took a 28-year-old woman into custody.

She’s been charged with Aggravated Assault and Robbery with Violence.

The male suspect has been identified but is still at large.

Tips leading to the solution of the crime are eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.00.

Winnipeg Man Assaults Guard, Points Gun At Cops

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Winnipeg man is facing charges for assaulting a security guard and pointing a firearm at police.

It happened Monday in the 300-block of Kennedy Street.

Winnipeg police say the suspect was confronted by the security guard after he tried to gain access to a building in the area.

When he was refused entry, the suspect produced a gun, pointed it at the guard, threatened to shoot him, and tried to rob the victim.

The security guard was able to escape and call police.

The Tactical Support Team responded and located the man near Kennedy Street and Ellice Avenue.

He pointed his handgun at police and fled, but kept the firearm pointed at officers.

Police located him in the parking lot behind Portage Place and recovered a replica handgun nearby.

Oliver Scott, 29, is facing a slew of charges, including:

  • Robbery
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Two counts of Pointing a Firearm
  • Public Mischief
  • Three counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance
  • Two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Scott remains behind bars.

Winnipeg Teen Recovering From Stabbing

Winnipeg Police - Stabbing Investigation

WINNIPEG, MB. — A Garden Hill, Manitoba man is facing charges for a Winnipeg stabbing.

It happened Monday in the 300-block of Ellice Street.

A 19-year-old man was attacked after a verbal confrontation with a suspect quickly escalated.

Winnipeg police say a second suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in his upper body and head.

The victim fell over and the two suspects continued to assault him as he lay on the ground.

Both then fled, but one suspect was located nearby.

Winnipeg police say the victim was rushed to hospital in stable condition.

Tyrone James Barkman, 21, has been charged with Assault, Assault with a Weapon, two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation, and two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

No description of the second suspect is available at this time.
