WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Police have arrested a man in connection with three Winnipeg bank robberies.
35-year-old Winnipeg man Ortez Elmer Argueta was arrested yesterday around the 300 block of Portage Avenue.
Argueta has been charged with the following:
- Armed Robbery using a Firearm x 2
- Disguise with Intent x 2
- Robbery
- Unlawfully at Large
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Probation Order x 2
- Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance – Cannabis
In two of the robberies, Argueta allegedly told clerks he was armed with a gun.
Below is a timeline and location of the 3 robberies.
- December 16, 2016, approximately 5:20 p.m. – Bank located in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue
- December 30, 2016, approximately 3:50 p.m. – Bank located in the 600 block of Osborne Street
- February 14, 2017, approximately 3:50 p.m. – Bank located in the 600 block of Osborne Street
Argueta remains in custody.
