Norman Gilbert Riel is a first-time federal offender serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. He is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for escaping from custody.
Riel has a long history of living off the profits of prostitution and is likely to be found in locations frequented by sex trade workers. Riel has documented criminal activity in Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto. It is believed that Riel’s family members will help him to avoid being caught. He might be with his wife and two unidentified men.
Riel is identified as a member of the West Coast Players gang and an associate to the Jamaican Posse gang. He has a number of affiliates in the United States (Las Vegas, Hawaii and Los Angeles) as well as contacts in the Mexican and South American drug cartels. He may attempt to leave Canada to travel south into the United States or South America with these criminal associates.
Riel, who has brown hair and brown eyes, was born in B.C. in March 1973. He is five-foot-nine and 275 pounds with tattoos of panthers on his left hip and right shoulder. He has scars on his right knuckles and left forearm. He is also known by the aliases Paul Paul Atkinson, James William Baldwin, Norman Gilbert Mayes, Eric J. Stanger and Rodney Zimmerman.
RCMP are working with Correctional Service Canada Mission in British Columbia. They warn the public not to approach Riel since he is considered to be violent. Instead, any information should be reported to the nearest RCMP detachment or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
