WINNIPEG, MB. — A 37-year-old Winnipeg man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
It happened Sunday evening around 5:00pm near Balmoral Street and Cumberland Avenue.
Cadets were patrolling when they noticed a man drinking alcohol in public.
He was allegedly intoxicated, so they tried to take him into custody.
The suspect became combative, eventually threatening and assaulting the cadets.
Police officers arrived to provide backup and subdued the man.
They searched the accused and found a knife in his waistband.
Uhanis Oliver Lotio is facing a slew of charges, including:
- Two counts of Assault Peace Officer
- Resist Peace Officer
- Possess Weapon
- Carry Concealed Weapon
- Two counts of Utter Threats
- Mischief Under $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Consume and Possess Liquor in Public Place
He remains behind bars.
