Last week the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit took 17 impaired drivers off the road through the Festive Season Check Stop Program.
From December 11th to the 17th, WPS stopped 431 vehicles, administered 38 roadside breath tests, suspended the licenses of eight drivers for 72 hours, issued 42 traffic related notices and one drug-related charge in addition to 17 impaired driving charges.
Police encourage everyone to have a plan in place before you go out this holiday season and throughout the year. Taking a cab or a bus, contacting Operation Red Nose or simply identifying a designated driver, are some options to consider.
The message is simple, if you choose to drink, don’t drive.
